Good piece from a well-known, Shinshinto smith. Blade is slightly koshi- zori with koitame tsumu, muji-hu jihada, nioi-deki, nioi-guchi shimaru, kikuka-choji-ba, yakidashi suguha. Ko-kissaki with ko-maru. Saya is newly made with deep red (burgundy) lacquer. Tsuka also is newer. Tsuba is good quality, mid-Edo period.

Blade is signed: Bizen Osafune Ju Yokoyama Sukekane (katana mei).

This is the 1st generation Sukemori, and he produced in Bizen province from 1834 to 1872 (Tempoh to Meiji period). He also signed Toshiyoshi Yokoyama and Toshizaemon Yokoyama (son of Sukemori Yokoyama). (Hawleys: SUK 697)
