A sword by Fujita Akiyoshi 藤田昭義

A Gendaitō piece I picked up the end of 2020.

It is signed katana-mei with the omote side reading:

羽州山形住

U Shū Yamagata Jū

藤田昭義作之

Fujita Akiyoshi Saku Kore

On the ura side along with the date there is the following inscription and date.

應山岸政天氏需 (應 is old form of応)

Ō Yamagishi Masao-shi Ju.

This is written in Kanbun or classical Chinese and the first character is read last, so it is read Yamagishi Masaoshi (no) ju (ni) Ōjite.

(Following the request/instructions of Mr. Masao Yamagishi).

昭和十九年二月日

Shōwa Jū Kyū Nen Ni Getsu Hi (A day in February 1944).

From Sesko pg. 28: Akiyoshi (昭義), 1st gen., Shōwa (昭和 1926-1989), Yamagata.  Real name Fujita Tokusaburō (藤田徳三郎), born 1904, he signed in his early years with Yoshikane (吉包) and studied under Kurihara Akihide (栗原明秀), jōko no jōi.
